Jewellery care

Jewellery can last forever if taken good care of

There are different things you can do yourself to care for your jewellery. But it all depends on its material properties, jewellery shouldn’t be cleaned and polished the same way – whether it is solid gold, plated gold, silver, diamonds, gemstones or pearls, each type should be cared for differently. Here’s a DIY guide on how to best cleanse and care best for your pieces.

Solid Gold

14k gold is made to last a lifetime and to become a part of you. Gold isn’t sensitive to water and can withstand most things without being damaged. However, gold is a soft material and over time scratches do appear. Of course this can be buffed out if you prefer a high shine and a smooth surface, but we like to think that gold pieces ages with you and help tell your story through their tiny imperfections.

How to care:

Soak the jewellery in warm water with a bit of dishwashing soap for 10-15 min. Use a soft toothbrush (or a baby toothbrush) and gently scrub the jewellery. Rinse it and dry it with a soft cloth.

Sterling silver

Sterling Silver is an alloy made up of 92.5% silver.

How to care:

Silver should be cleaned in lukewarm water. A minut is enough. Dry it with a soft preferably a chamois jewelers cloth. Make sure to use gentle motions.

If you find the result not to be satisfactory you can always use a silver-cleaning fluid, which you can order here, just write me an email

Make sure to take of your jewellery before getting into chlorinated water.

When not worn place the jewellery in a jewellery box of it’s own.

Gold plated

Gold plated is when a thin layer of solid gold is bonded to the jewellery. It’s always possible to get your jewellery re-plated for 150kr.

How to care:

Soak the piece in warm water and mild dishwashing soap and soak for ten minutes.
Use a Q-tip to remove dirt. Rinse the jewellery in warm water and gently dry it in a soft cloth.

Gold plated jewellery should be taken more care of than other jewellery. So to extend the longevity of your pieces here’s a few good tips:

  1. Always remove your pieces of jewellery when in contact with water.

  2. Always apply perfume, make-up, hairspray and creams before putting on your jewellery.

  3. Remove your jewellery when exercising to prevent sweat damaging the pieces.

  4. Always store your pieces separately in a jewellery box to prevent scuffs and scratches.
